The Washington Fellowship is the flagship program of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative. President Obama launched YALI in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa.

The Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent provides the participants with an intensive learning opportunity to deepen their understanding of the United Nations human rights system, instruments and mechanisms, with a focus on issues of particular relevance to people of African descent.

Tunza is a Kiswahili word which means to treat with care or affection. It is a biennium International Conference which includes children (from age 10-14) and youth (from age 15-25) from all countries of the world and was adopted as in February 2003 by the Governing Council of UNEP as a long term strategy for engaging youths in environmental activities and in the work of UNEP.
